Project Highlights / Scope of Work

• Performed demolition, construction and renovation of seven stations in Vermont and New York

• Constructed new concrete platforms on grade or on piles measuring from 230’ to 370’

• Interior work included lobby renovations, new bathrooms, new plumbing and revised mechanical systems

• Exterior site work included new parking areas, ramps, sidewalks, handrails, landscaping, wheelchair lift enclosures and site and platform lighting

Project Description
The goal of this project was to upgrade the level of handicapped accessibility at seven Amtrak commuter rail stations in Vermont and New York State.  Various improvements were made at each location to conform to the guidelines established by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

All stations required varying degrees of demolition, construction and renovation.  Asphalt platforms and parking lots were demolished.  New platforms - some on piles, some on grade - were built and new platform lighting was added.  New parking lots with handicapped spaces were constructed.  New sidewalks, curbing, ramps and handrails were installed.  One new bathroom was built and one was completely renovated with new plumbing and mechanical systems.  Of course, both contain all required handicapped features. 

Special attention was paid to the aesthetics of each site.  Decorative wheelchair lift enclosures were created and the extensive plantings were specifically chosen to complement the natural beauty of their surroundings.  The final result is an attractive and practical enhancement to the mass transit system in the Northeast.
