Position Overview

The Chief Estimator is responsible for overseeing the estimating department and ensuring accurate, timely, and competitive bid proposals for electrical contracting projects. This role requires extensive knowledge of electrical systems, construction practices, and cost estimation, combined with strong leadership and project management skills. The Chief Estimator will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to develop comprehensive and competitive estimates that align with company objectives and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership and Management: a. Lead, mentor, and manage the estimating team, ensuring high performance and professional development. b. Establish and maintain departmental procedures, policies, and best practices. c. Coordinate with other departments to ensure alignment and smooth workflow. 2. Estimating and Proposal Development: a. Develop and oversee the preparation of detailed cost estimates for electrical contracting projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs. b. Review project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive and accurate estimates. c. Identify potential risks and opportunities in project bids and develop strategies to mitigate risks. 3. Project Coordination: a. Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate and competitive bids. b. Maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and industry professionals to gather necessary information and ensure competitive pricing. c. Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project reviews. 4. Quality Control: a. Ensure all estimates are prepared in accordance with company standards and client requirements. b. Review and analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs, identifying areas for improvement. 5.Market Analysis and Strategy: a. Stay current with industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities. b. Provide strategic input to senior management regarding market opportunities and business development. 6. Documentation and Reporting: a. Prepare and maintain detailed records of estimates, proposals, and supporting documentation. b. Generate reports on bid activity, win/loss ratios, and other key performance metrics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; or equivalent experience. • Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical estimating within the construction industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, construction practices, and cost estimation techniques. • Proficient in Accubid estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite. • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. • Knowledge of relevant building codes, standards, and regulations.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in an office environment and on construction sites as needed. • Ability to travel as required for site visits and meetings.
